Frequently Asked Questions
This extension doesn't send me a backup when expected !
Make sure the media directory in Joomla base installation is writable by your web server (usually your account name on shared hosting). This plugin creates a dummy file that contains the next scheduled backup timestamp, which will be sent when someone visits your site and the backup is due.
The plugin sends me email with this error message : Can't create the output file.
This error occurs when your Joomla media directory (or the relative folder set for the "Backup Path" in the configs) doesn't have the necessay write permissions to create the temporary backup file.
My site contains mostly static pages, can I configure the plugin to send backups only when changes have been made ?
If your site only allows registered users to add/modify content, then you can set the plugin access to "registered". This way, a backup will only be sent when a registered user logs in, and a backup is due.
If you're the only one that modifies content, from the backend, you can set it to 'special' so it only sends a backup when you log in or request a page in the backend, and when the backup is due.
Be aware that your database doesn't only contain menu links, users and articles, but also many tables that are extension specific that can be modified, depending what modules you use. In exemple, just to name a few popular modules: polls, rating, commenting modules, and article hits counter are modified when public visitor access your website. In case of doubts, it's best to leave it as a public module.
